Technology Developed for Management of Weeds in different Crops/ Cropping Systems
- For weed management in wheat, post emergence application of 2,4 –D 0.8 kg/ha or Carfentrazone 25 g/ha at 30 DAS (where Phalaris minor is not a problem) or Isoproturon 0.75-1.0 kg/ha or Sulfosulfuron 25 g/ha as POE when Phalaris minor and wild oat are also problematic and Pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin 1.0 kg/ha are recommended.
- Application of Clodinafop + Metribuzin 60+122.5 g/ha at 28 DAS or Sulfosulfuron + Metribuzin 25+150 g/ha at 28 DAS were found equally effective for reducing the weed count and weed dry weight and producing similar grain yield to that of weed free plot.
- Application of Pinoxaden + Carfentrazon ethyl 50 + 20 g/ha at 28 DAS has also been found equally effective for reducing the weed count and weed dry weight and producing similar grain yield to that of weed free plot.
Rice-wheat cropping system
The lowest weed count and weed dry weight and the highest grain yield and monetary returns were achieved under conventional tillage in rice – zero tillage in wheat. Among weed control treatments, recommended herbicides (pre-emergence application of Butachlor 1.5 kg/ha for rice and Isoproturon 1.0 kg/ha for wheat) had proved its superiority over others in terms of getting maximum productivity and profitability.
Pre-emergence application of Metribuzine @ 1.0 kg/ha + post emergence applications 2,4-D @ 1.0 kg/ha at 60 days after planting followed by hand weeding at 90 days after planting effectively controls the weed flora in sugarcane.
Sugarcane Ratoon
Pre-emergence application of Metribuzin 0.88 kg/ha fb one hoeing at 45 DAP fb 2,4-D (Na salt ) 2.5 kg/ha at 90 days after planting.
Mechanical weeding twice or application of Atrazine 0.75 kg/ha fb 2-4, D sodium salt 0.5 kg/ha in maize crop minimizes weeds and returns highest grain yield.
Mechanical weeding twice or application of Pendimethalin 0.75 kg/ha fb one manual weeding at 40-45 days after sowing in lentil crop, minimized weeds and gave highest grain yield & net return.
